WebAssure is built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure which allows for practically unlimited capacity, flexibility and scalability, but more importantly means we can build you a truly tailored hosting platform – all plans feature at least a dedicated RDS database instance and separate EC2 web server instance – this has various benefits over typical managed hosting, even those that claim similar attributes:

  • Better performance – not everything is running on the same server
  • Possible to scale horizontally – i.e. add another web server or additional database
  • Easy to scale virtually -i.e. a more powerful database server, larger web server instance, more hard disk storage

In short, you get a scalable hosting foundation upon which you can base your future growth and expansion without ever needing to migrate to a new hosting solution.

With WebAssure, you pay for:

  • Hosting platform infrastructure – paid to AWS and based on usage.

A dedicated AWS Organization built to AWS best practices forms the basis for your hosting environment. You own the accounts and pay AWS directly so that you are in full control.

WebAssure is dedicated infrastructure, deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS) – the world’s largest cloud provider, renowned for performance, reliability and security.

You’ll have dedicated, individual infrastructure to support your website including database server, web server and load balancer.

We can deploy your WebAssure hosting stack in any of the many AWS regions worldwide.

We monitor for and proactively respond to infrastructure related issues 24/7 in line with the target response time.

We manage your AWS accounts, proactively taking care of maintenance including:

  • Patching EC2 instances – security patches only
  • AWS required updates to RDS database instances
  • AWS specified updates to the account such as end of life notifications

WebAssure includes multiple layers of backups to ensure your site data is never lost.

AWS Backup is provisioned at an infrastructure level to backup your database, data volumes and any object stores and shared file systems.

All WebAssure plans include a dedicated AWS Application Load Balancer.

The load balancer handles all inbound traffic and SSL termination so that scaling up to handle more site visitors in future can be done without having to make additional DNS & architectural changes.

All WebAssure plans include AWS Shield Standard.

AWS Shield is an AWS managed service that provides automatic protection against common Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks targeting AWS resources, at no additional cost. It safeguards applications by monitoring traffic and mitigating threats at the network and transport layers.

All WebAssure plans include AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF) configured with rules to protect against OWASP Top 10 Web Application Vulnerabilities.

WebAssure Enterprise can include optional additional advanced rules customised for your application.

All plans include application servers based on dedicated AWS EC2 instances.

WebAssure Standard includes a single EC2 instance. WebAssure Advanced and Enterprise include additional instances for high availability (see High Availability feature below).

Your application’s CPU and RAM requirements will be discussed during onboarding and this will determine which EC2 instance family is required, and for Advanced and Enterprise plans, the number of instances required.

Amazon RDS is used to host your database ensuring high performance and reliability.

WebAssure Standard includes a single database instance. WebAssure Advanced and Enterprise include multiple database instances in different AWS availability zones (an Availability Zone is effectively a separate data centre within a region).

Your application’s database requirements will be discussed during onboarding and this will determine which RDS instance family is required.

All WebAssure WordPress hosting plans include support for WP-Rocket CDN (subscription to WP-Rocket CDN required).

For WordPress – WebAssure Standard and Advanced include a licensed version of wp-rocket – the premium caching plugin.

For Magento – WebAssure Standard and Advanced include Varnish for page caching.

For both WordPress and Magento sites, WebAssure Enterprise includes configuration of additional caching layers including database query caching.

All WebAssure plans include automated management of certificates including certificate renewal using AWS Certificate Manager.

WebAssure Advanced and Enterprise include support for High Availability. This means that more than one EC2 application instance can be provisioned (usually in different Availability Zones) and/or RDS configured in Multi-AZ mode.

An Availability Zone (AZ) is one or more discrete data centers with redundant power, networking, and connectivity in an AWS Region. 

Note – Application changes are likely to be required to be able to take advantage of multiple servers due to the necessity to handle state and work with a shared file system.

Support for AWS Elastic File System (EFS) which is a high performance network attached file system.

AWS EFS allows for a single file system to be shared by multiple application servers. Such a shared file system is essential if you have more than one application server in order to ensure the same files are served no matter which server handles the request.

Note – Application changes are likely to be required to be able to take advantage of a shared file system.

WebAssure Enterprise onboarding includes a virtual, collaborative workshop to define a High Level Design document covering all aspects and features of the WebAssure service.

The output from the workshop is a plan with clearly defined responsibilities. We’ll work with your team to handle the migration to WebAssure, according to the agreed plan.

In addition to infrastructure monitoring, WebAssure Enterprise includes comprehensive monitoring of your application to provide automated notifications to your team.

During onboarding, we’ll work with you to design your required application monitoring.

Note
Application monitoring is designed to automatically alert your team – we do not support your application unless unless we agree an application incident response plan with you separately (see below).

Application monitoring tool setup and management is included in the monthly fee, however any application monitoring tool licence and usage costs are charged separately.

WebAssure Enterprise includes Synthetic testing to probe applications from global sources to simulate real world traffic and ensure users from key geographic markets can successfully reach the application. Synthetic tests can include, for example: logging in; shopping basket transitions; and other multi-step processes.

During onboarding, we’ll work with you to design required synthetic tests.

Note. Application monitoring tool setup and management is included in the monthly fee, however any application monitoring tool licence and usage costs are charged separately.

WebAssure Enterprise includes infrastructure designed to support Git driven development and deployments using automated deployment pipelines.

During onboarding, we’ll work with you to understand or design a deployment process that ensures support for advanced features such as High Availability, CDN, Dynamic Auto Scaling and work load separation.

Note. Application changes are likely to be required to take advantage of automated deployments.

WebAssure Enterprise includes support for Amazon S3 – a highly available and reliable Cloud Object Store.

By storing media assets directly in S3, it becomes possible to serve them directly from AWS CloudFront which offloads the processing from the application servers and significantly speeds up delivery to your application users.

Note. Application changes are likely to be required to be able to take advantage of object storage and a CDN.

WebAssure Enterprise includes support for Amazon CloudFront distribution. During onboarding we’ll work with you to design a CloudFront deployment which optimises for speed.

Amazon CloudFront is a global distributed Content Delivery Network providing lightening fast response times and pushing often used site content closer to where your customers are accessing from.

Note. Application changes are likely to be required to take advantage of Amazon CloudFront.

WebAssure Enterprise includes support for dynamic auto scaling, provisioned using an AWS Auto Scaling Group (ASG).

AWS ASGs allow for the automated provisioning and de-provisioning of EC2 instances based on demand. This means that as your traffic spikes, the Auto Scaling Group will spool up extra application instances to support the load and then when it dies down again, the servers will be destroyed.

Note. Application changes are likely to be required to take advantage of auto scaling. This is because, in an ASG, servers are completely ephemeral – being created and destroyed automatically. Not only must the application support High Availability, with media assets and CMS content stored centrally, but it must also support automated deployment so that code updates are captured when an instance is automatically brought into life by the ASG.

WebAssure Enterprise includes support for workload segregation between development, staging and production environments, using dedicated and segregated infrastructure.

As part of the onboarding process in relation to Deployment Automation and Support (see above) we’ll work with you to design a multi environment setup that meets your needs.

WebAssure Enterprise includes a dedicated Slack channel monitored by Logicata engineers familiar with your environment.

Optional feature – charged in addition to the monthly fee

24/7 incident response for application issues, in addition to incident response for infrastructure issues. Responses to incidents are managed using standard runbooks in attempt to resolve the problem.

During onboarding, we’ll work with you to identify your requirements for application incident support.

If you’ve purchased WebAssure Standard or Advanced we’ll get going with setting up the service immediately, during our next provisioning slot. If you’ve ordered WebAssure Enterprise, we’ll be in touch to arrange a suitable time to conduct the solution design workshop.

AWS invoice in arrears based on usage, some of which will be variable. A typical WebAssure Standard deployment will run to approximately $500 a month. For a detailed estimate, AWS provide an online AWS Pricing Calculator available at https://calculator.aws

Yes.

However, setting up an AWS account takes a bit of time and requires multiple steps, so to expedite things, Logicata will create a new account in your name using a Logicata owned credit card to complete the account setup process. Any charges we incur during this time will be billed to you at cost.

Once we get everything setup we’ll transfer the billing to you and help you provide AWS with your preferred payment method.

Generally, you pay AWS directly for AWS fees which vary based on usage, plus any plugin subscriptions not included in the service such as software licences for WordPress plugins or Magento modules.

Logicata’s fixed fees for providing the WebAssure are shown above and comprise:

  1. One-off set-up fee.
  2. Monthly service fee includes all of the features shown above as included.
  3. Any specific additional fees we’ve agreed between us.

You pay AWS directly for AWS fees which vary based on usage.

Our enterprise plan is based on a monthly fee agreed with you in advance – fixed up to a certain threshold of your AWS spend. Once the spend goes above the threshold, we usually switch to a variable charge as a percentage of the AWS spend. We’ve found this is a fair way to cover our costs as the environment we’re responsible for increases in sophistication, scale and complexity. This is agreed with you during the order process.

The monthly Logicata WebAssure Enterprise fee includes:

  1. All of the features defined above
  2. Any subscribed features marked Optional.
  3. Any application monitoring and/or synthetic tests you’ve asked us to configure.

The cost varies based on specific requirements which are identified during the requirements workshop and the finalised High Level Design.

If you are moving your application from a shared hosting environment and require the enterprise features, it’s highly likely that your application will require refactoring to support features such as High Availability, CDN and Dynamic Auto Scaling as these features dictate development workflow changes and application code changes. Once we’ve have worked together to identify what’s required, and what you ned our help with, we’ll provide a detailed quotation and Statement of Work for you to agree.

If you wish to cancel the Logicata WebAssure service but keep your hosting, let us know you wish to cancel (1 month notice is required) and then on the agreed day, you can simply rescind our AWS access and that’s it!

After you cancel with Logicata, you’ll be responsible for managing your AWS infrastructure and your application. Any AWS services which we’ve configured will continue to function. Access to any Logicata tools will no longer be available and associated features will be discontinued.
